Our Team
A collection of variously skilled professionals make up the Great Ocean Road Brewing team – Mattias Isaksson, Matt & Lesley Shortal, Mick & Renae Ranger. Together, our team is a formidable force who plan on making some waves in the beer market along the Great Ocean Road and beyond.
Mattias Isaksson – Master Brewer
Mattias is the brains behind all that keeps our beautiful brews being produced at such a high level.
Originally from Sweden but now a dozen year Australian, Mattias cut his brewing teeth at a variety of breweries around Victoria but has settled at Great Ocean Road Brewing well.
Mattias has a distinct skill in his discerning pallet as well as his ability to get the best out of both product and machine. His passion is our prize as we all get to enjoy the fruits of his labour.
Matt Shortal – Owner/Director
Matt has spent the majority of his working life in the FMCG industry and has built up executive level experience across Sales and Marketing and therefore brings a wealth of knowledge to the Great Ocean Road brewing team in this space. Matt has a passion for building brands and strong customer relationships. These skills will be put to good use in building the Great Ocean Road Brewing brand and products. Keeping our consumers happy whilst understanding the world of customers exceptionally well, ensures mutual success for everyone selling our “Great” beers.
Matt lives locally in Geelong with his wife Lesley and 3 young Daughters Chloe, Ella and Summer. Like all of us at Great Ocean Road Brewing, Matt loves a beer and the good times that come with it.
Renae Ranger – Owner/Social and Events Liaison
Having developed a strong love of beer in her 20s, what better could Renae think of than to get involved in a brewery of her own with her husband Mick and her great friends Lesley and Matt in her 30s. Lover of the simple things in life: beer, family, friends, the great outdoors and whipping up a mean platter.
Renae has a strong interest in design, community engagement along with regular family fun. Renae hopes to build a strong following for Great Ocean Road Brewing in the coming years through a welcoming attitude and inclusive environment at the brewery and beyond.
Lesley Shortal – Owner/Logistics and Risk
Lesley is a fun loving mother of three and wife to Matt. At Great Ocean Road Brewing she enjoys supplying customers with their orders in a personable and timely fashion. She loves a new challenge all the while ensuring everyone’s safety is of the utmost concern. We believe this was ingrained in her whilst training and working as a theatre nurse. She is always keen to help and work hard to make any challenge a success.
Mick Ranger – Owner/Director
Cutting his teeth in business over the last 17years as a founding partner of the Physio Plus Group, Mick has complementary small business skills to Matt’s big. A Sports Physio by trade who loves what he does but loves beer almost as much.
A father of 4 young kids (Ruby, Grace, Charlie and Jack) with Renae, Mick really enjoys leading by example getting his hands dirty on any job big or small. Learning some skills from Brew Master Mattias is a fun part of it for Mick. In another life, Mick may have been working with numbers so he chips away behind the scenes making sure that accounts are sorted.
