Front of House/Venue Manager – Brewery, Restaurant and Event Space (Torquay, VIC)

Great Ocean Road Brewing is expanding into Torquay and is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Front of House Manager to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our front-of-house operations, ensuring a smooth flow of service and an exceptional dining experience for our guests in the heart of Torquay.

This new location boasts a greater seating capacity, a live music space, and a host of exciting new opportunities. We are seeking a dedicated Front of House/Venue Manager to lead the charge in getting our new venue ready for opening and manage its ongoing operations.

The Role:

This role offers a unique opportunity in establishing a new taproom experience, building a team and implementing systems and procedures to ensure a successful opening.

The ideal candidate will possess venue management and leadership experience, with additional experience in event management or live music events being a plus.

The successful applicant will not only be an experienced hospitality operator with a passion for customer service and team management but will also bring creative ideas to help the venue reach its full potential.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and motivate a team of servers, bartenders, and hosts, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Oversee daily operations, including seating, table management, wait service, and guest satisfaction.
  • Develop and implement systems to ensure efficient service, cost control, and adherence to liquor licensing regulations.
  • Create and maintain a welcoming and clean atmosphere for all guests.
  • Manage reservations and bookings, ensuring efficient table allocation and minimal wait times.
  • Event Coordination: Work alongside our event team to plan and execute events including beer dinners and live music performances 
  • Stock Management: Manage inventory and POS systems efficiently 
  • Safety and Compliance: Promote a culture of care and safety, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations for both staff and guests.
  • Venue Presentation: Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the venue.
  • Community Engagement: Develop and implement strategies to engage with the local community, drive foot traffic, and retain loyal customers.
  • Business Planning: Participate as a member of the senior management team, contributing to business planning and strategic initiatives.
  • Handle customer inquiries and resolve any issues promptly and professionally.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of promotional events and programs.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the kitchen and bar staff to ensure seamless communication and service.
  • Assist with staff recruitment, training and development programs.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new menu items and service initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a front-of-house management role within the hospitality industry, preferably in a brewery or restaurant setting.
  • Proven track record of success in leading and motivating a team.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of food and beverage service standards.
  • Passion for craft beer and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
  • Proficiency in a point-of-sale system.
  • Valid RSA Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

Kitchen Manager / Head Chef

Great Ocean Road Brewing is expanding into Torquay brewery and restaurant, is seeking a passionate and experienced Kitchen Manager / Head Chef to join our growing team. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our culinary operations, ensuring we deliver an exceptional dining experience that complements our award-winning craft beers.**

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute innovative and seasonally-inspired menus that showcase fresh, local produce and complement our craft beer selection.
  • Lead and motivate a team of chefs, cooks, and kitchen staff, fostering a positive, collaborative, and high-performing work environment.
  • Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, plating, presentation, and quality control.
  • Ensure adherence to all food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Manage kitchen inventory, including ordering, costing, and minimizing waste.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local suppliers to source high-quality ingredients.
  • Contribute to menu pricing and profitability.
  • Assist with staff recruitment, training and development programs.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new menu items and service initiatives.
  • Conduct staff training and development programs, ensuring all team members are skilled and knowledgeable.
  • Maintain a clean, efficient, and safe working environment in the kitchen.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior kitchen leadership role, ideally within a restaurant or brewery setting.
  • Strong culinary skills and a proven track record of creating innovative and delicious food.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead, motivate, and train a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Strong work ethic, with a commitment to quality and consistency.
  • Experience with menu costing, inventory control, and budgeting.
  • Passion for craft beer and a desire to create a menu that complements the brewery’s offerings.
